LBK Garden Club Charitable Work

The Longboat Key Garden Club, Inc. is an active philanthropic organization established in 1969.

The five basic objectives of the Club are to:

1) Stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening and to teach the special art of gardening on LBK
2) Preserve the natural beauty of Longboat Key and surrounding areas and to further enhance its' beautification
3) Encourage the preservation of our wildlife, birds, beaches and purity of waterways
4) Look at wider environmental concerns and to stimulate this learning in our youth, and
5) Encourage a wider awareness of our many philanthropic activities and actively involve more members

The Club supports a wide variety of activities to implement its objectives. Civic beautification awards are given annually to commercial establishments and residences to recognize environmentally sensitive landscaping. We provide scholarships for college students studying environmental related concerns, award youth scholarships to local summer camps and give grants to local deserving organizations.

Funding for the above activities comes from our primary fundraisers, the Taste of the Keys/ Fashion Show and the Home Tour featuring some of the most attractive homes on the Key as well as donations from generous donors. We created a Grants Program for non-profit organizations to implement a project for their organization that fists the guidelines of the Club’s objectives.
