LBKGC Grants

The Longboat Key Garden Club, Inc. is an active philanthropic organization established in 1969.

The five basic objectives of the Club are to: 1) to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening and to teach the special art of gardening on LBK 2) To preserve the natural beauty of Longboat Key and surrounding areas and to further enhance its' beautification 3) To encourage the preservation of our wildlife, birds, beaches and purity of waterways 4) To look at wider environmental concerns and to stimulate this learning in our youth 5) To encourage a wider awareness of our many philanthropic activities and actively involve more members

The Club supports a wide variety of activities to implement its objectives. Civic beautification awards are given annually to commercial establishments and residences to recognize environmentally sensitive landscaping. We provide scholarships for college students studying environmental related concerns, award youth scholarships to local summer camps and give grants to local deserving organizations.

Funding for the above activities comes from our primary fundraisers, the Taste of the Keys/ Fashion Show and the Home Tour featuring some of the most attractive homes on the Key as well as donations from generous donors. We created a Grants Program for non-profit organizations to implement a project for their organization that fists the guidelines of the Club’s objectives.

The completion of the attached application will assist in evaluating those organizations with the greatest need and in awarding grant recipients.

Our grants range from $100 to several thousand dollars at the Garden Club’s discretion. All applications must be postmarked by March 31st to qualify. Grant awards will be announced at the end of April. In the past, awards were presented in person at our Annual Meeting at Joan M. Durante Park, LBK at the end of April. However, at this point, an in-person meeting will be based on local and state laws in light of covid-19.
